Repair onetime TV antenna - tin can information technology be done?

Click for full size

Looking for ideas to repair this TV antenna. I judge is some 35 years onetime. Usually sits atop my roof in a 20 ft mast only I took it downwardly 2 weeks ago due to hurricane Irma threat (I am in Puerto Rico) and was planning to put it back today but at present Maria is looming on the horizon so I did not put it back as planned.

Anyhow, information technology is a regular FM/VHF/UHF antenna and the two longest elements/rods have broken up due to birds sitting on them and doing what the birds and the bees practice while sitting on them. I have both missing rods, recovered from the roof after they had fallen. See attached picture. Can this be repaired? The antenna works equally is just some local channels don't appear on a channel scan and so later on another browse they will appear. No big deal in that function since I utilize off-the air Tv as backup if cable service fails but I do use it for circulate FM reception. Is this type of antenna still available?

Longest elements are for low Fq VHF... do you receive any VHF Channels in ii-5 Channel range? If all your channels are UHF.... And so don't worry, just put information technology dorsum up... I'd be more concerned with 35 year former coax existence a huge deterrent, more than than the antenna...
Personally, I'd replace Coax & Balun

New coax is already purchased to replace the old one (don't think information technology is as erstwhile every bit the antenna but yet). I will not touch the balun because when I tried to disconnect the cable the petty prophylactic boot would not budge and was afraid something would intermission then I went adjacent for the balun but i of the fly nuts in the antenna lost one fly so I did not even endeavor again. Ended up cutting the coax cable instead. The old ane is RG59 and I got RG6 to replace it.

I wouldn't fifty-fifty put information technology support... Look at the Mohu Air sixty. Yous won't miss any of the channels anymore with it. Best Buy has information technology for $90. You won't be disappointed.

I need FM besides. As well expensive when off-the-air TV is only a backup to cable Television.

Equally mentioned, the long elements are for ch 2 etc.

If in that location are no channels of interest that low, you tin can simply use information technology every bit is.

For fm, the elements used are the ones closest in size to the generic flatlead T antennae.

For replacement of the cleaved long pair, yes, if y'all take the old parts, you could flatten an finish, drill the two holes, and use nuts northward bolts. Alternatively, you could get 1/viii" diameter aluminum rod, nearly the same length or longer, and bend an eyelet hole for the new nuts northward bolts. Either of those solutions is gauge, but much amend than zippo for the low channels

Hope everything is good with you lot, your family unit, and your home.

Indeed, since all of Puerto Rico is now without power, and some parts may exist for months, it may be a while before we hear dorsum from printscreen.

I'grand guessing that missing a few TV channels is pretty low on his priority list right at present. The devastation looks pretty astringent.

Hope he's alright down in that location!

Indeed, I tin can't imagine repairing this antenna is high on printscreen's priority list right now. Promise everyone's all correct downwards there.

Once this becomes closer to a priority, yes, he can endeavour to repair it. The phase harness would like to see the elements in that location. Earlier heading out to get the materials, brand certain the locking snaps are good on the plastic. If they're badly weathered or broken, you might exist meliorate off just to get another antenna.

Measure from the tip of the element to the center of the rivet hole, and then see if you can get some aluminum tube the same diameter and wall thickness. The rough role might be getting the aluminum rivets in the length you demand.

Good luck.

Hope anybody is ok down there in PR. At present to make a funny, all y'all demand is some pudding cans and chewing mucilage. Worked for Nib & Ted.

Hi guys, I am dorsum. I am fine subsequently 50 days. A brief summary on how things are going. As you all know Puerto Rico was hit very difficult by hurricane Maria. We are still a long way to normal life. My area in general was not damaged very much because nearly homes around here are made of physical and this is not a flood area. Only modest damages to homes. Well-nigh copse lost their leaves but after fifty days you would non notice if it wasn't for the many missing branches and missing fallen trees. Most of my boondocks got water service back later on only a few days just many areas are still without power. Nearly of the downtown expanse has power already and it "feels" a bit like normal simply prison cell phone service is still spotty and in my case the but way to become to the Internet since cable TV (and my country based Internet service) is down and will be for some time. My landline phone only lost dial tone for 3 days about a week after the hurricane and subsequently that information technology was fully restored being able to call out of boondocks and to the The states. A few of the local telephone carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile and Claro) opened up their networks to allow subscribers from the other carriers on whichever signal was bachelor in roaming although they anre not charging for roaming. I only got some Internet at home when T-Mobile (my carrier) finally returned a few days ago in my area even though it was bachelor since a few calendar week in other nearby areas. I am nevertheless without ability even though my surface area has power already because the service drib was damaged on my end of the drop. Had to bring a licensed electrician to fix it and certify the thing. Just yesterday and got the certification to the power company for them to reconnect my service. I am waiting on them now. My neighbour let me run a long extension cord into her house to let me ability me fridge, a few lights and TV in the hateful time then I am not totaqlly in the dark but this really sucks anyhow. My place of work (a large manufacturing facility) has non yet fully recovered and merely this calendar week got power service back and should brainstorm production activities shortly. I lost more than three weeks of piece of work due to all this. But I am ok, thank God.

Back to the subject matter, I put the antenna back up almost 2 weeks ago. I left it equally is but put a new cablevision down to the house. I didn't put dorsum the missing elements. Some of the locking snaps are cleaved and some are loose. I put tie wraps around the root of those elements to lock them in place. The antenna works fine although I am only getting a few channels but this is most probable due to many of the smaller stations beingness out due to lack of power. We are all the same less than fifty% recovered in this regard subsequently 50 days.

And yep, this forum was fashion down near the bottom of my priorities.
